North Korea’s hydrogen bomb testing: A knock of danger for other countries

North Korea has been claiming about the hydrogen bomb testing which reflects their power in the field of science and technology. And, they have successfully completed the same on past Sunday, 3rd September-2017. North Korea's recent hydrogen bomb test produced an energy around 10 times more than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. And, this can raise fears among other countries that Pyongyang is getting close to constructing a nuclear-tipped missile. Pyongyang is the capital of the North Korea and it is also the largest city of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

If we could have been gone through the statistics, we would be just amazed at the fact. And, the fact says that North Korea has conducted approximately six underground nuclear tests till the date. Each one of them has taken it near to what decades of international talks have tried to stop. Which is, "a nuclear weapon in the hands of one of the world's most unpredictable states". Hence these statistics and the rapidly growing power of the North Korea is really making other countries to think twice about their strength and well-fare.

Hydrogen Bomb: Energy Emitted in this explosion

The hydrogen bomb also called a thermonuclear bombis an explosive power which results in an uncontrolled, self-sustaining chain reaction. In this process isotopes of hydrogen combined under high temperature and form helium, which is known as Nuclear Fusion. In this process, high temperatures are required for the reaction same as produced by the explosion of an atomic bomb.

Nuclear Fusion process

And, the energy emitted by this nuclear fusion process in hydrogen bomb explosion is very huge. And, it can cause the last long effect on the human being also. Look at the snippets below to imagine the energy emitted in the process:

Energy emitted during the H-bomb explosion

The officials of Japanese and north also said that an earthquake detected near the North's test site. And it was approximate 10 times more powerful than previous explosions. Hence they also concluded that the North had conducted its sixth nuclear test continuously. Let's look out the test that Nort Korea had been conducted until now:

The Six Nuclear Tests(Hydrogen Bomb): By North Korea

 #1. 9th October 2006: "A Weapon for Peace"

The first most nuclear test had happened in October 2006. And the announcement of Pyongyang stating that: attempts at negotiation by foreign powers. And they have taken this explosive dangerous test into underground tunnels like all other tests in a remote mountainous site called "Punggye-Ri".

First Experiment: Hydrogen Bomb Test

The test conducted underground at the Punggye-ri site in the north-east

The International Observer has examined the emitted energy from this explosion that was around 1 Kiloton. And, the North said it had joined the nuclear club, and that its hydrogen bomb testing would contribute to peace and stability.

#2. 25th May 2009: "Attempt to prove Stability"

Furthermore, down the 3 years, they have tested the hydrogen bomb for the second time. And it was bigger. The energy emitted from this explosion was between 2 to 8 Kilotonnes. North Korea said that it had achieved a "higher level in terms of its explosive power and technology".

The second test, here applauded by Party officials, was seen as an attempt by the North to prove it could still conduct a test despite political uncertainty

This test has although shown a glimpse of the power of the North Korea in the field of science. But there was no radiation detected from this test. Along with the hydrogen bomb testing, they also put a satellite into space with the same. Both were seen as an attempt by ailing leader Kim Jong-il to prove the North's nuclear capacity before he died.

#3. 12th February 2013: "Uranium-enrichment"

In the year 2013, North Korea did their 3rd nuclear hydrogen bomb testing. That became the reason of unusual seismic activity around Punggye-Ri. They also said that they have experienced "a miniaturized and lighter nuclear device with greater explosive force than previously".

The reference to "miniaturized" stoked fears that Pyongyang was near to generating a device, enough to fit on a long-range missile. In this test plutonium enrichment also has to happen in large. Whereas uranium enrichment can more easily be carried out in secrecy.

#4. 6 January 2016: "Thermonuclear claim"

The fourth one test by the North Korea was again a report of an "artificial quake" in North Korea, registering about magnitude 5.1, close to Punggye-Ri.

Later North Korea claimed that it had conducted its first successful test of a hydrogen bomb. Though again it has never been confirmed, that claim alarmed the international community. The observation was not that much strong to say it at that level but there was fusion occurred in the explosion.

A few months later, on 9 March, Kim Jong-un declared that North Korea scientists had been able to do what had long been feared, and make a nuclear warhead small enough to fit on a warhead.

#5. 9th September 2016: "A Major Advance"

Again North Korea announced that they have tested the fifth nuclear test in 2016. And this test had explosive yield more than the previous ones. And the analyst claimed that the energy emitted from this explosion was approximately 10K tonnes and some say up to 20K tonnes. And we would be aware of the fact that the bomb dropped by the US on Hiroshima in 1945 had a yield of about 15 kilotonnes.

South Koreans react to the latest test – test #5

#6. 3rd September: "Claimed to be the biggest yet"

Finally, the latest and the biggest one as it has been said. And North Korea also claimed the successful test of this hydrogen bomb. Which made the world to worry about their well-fare and power. It has been said that this test was having as much power as generated by the earthquake of 6.3 magnitudes.

Hours before state media showed North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspecting what it said was a hydrogen bomb

Therefore, reading scale 6.3 is itself stating the power of this hydrogen bomb. And, analysts are stating that the power that has been unleashed from this test is 10 times greater than the power that had been generated from the bomb dropped in Hiroshima in 1945.

Reactions of other Countries

USA:

The USA has been the first one to be in the chaos with this hydrogen bomb testing by the North Korea. US ambassador Nikki Haley said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was "begging for war." At the conclusion of the meeting, Haley also said that the US would distribute a resolution in response to the nuclear test, with plans for a vote on it next week. While Donald Trump, the president of USA, on the same day tweeted

Russia:

While Russian president Vladimir Putin expresses his deep concern over the hydrogen bomb test by North Korea. He shows his concern after meeting with the South Korean President Moon Jae-in on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia. Putin commented that "Do not succumb to emotions and drive North Korea into a corner. Now more than ever, everyone needs to be calm and avoid steps that lead to an escalation of tension," Furthermore he also added that Without the political and diplomatic tools, it is extremely difficult to move the situation around. And to be more focused it's impossible at all.

Japan:

On the other hand, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Wednesday that he wants North Korea to perceived it has "no bright future" if it continues on its present way and that the reclusive country needs to change its policies. And, Japanese defense minister Itsunori Onodera expresses his concern stating that "It is far bigger than the past (North Korean) nuclear tests,". "The fact that a nuclear bomb with a certain level of energy output has been developed, is a large threat not only for Japan but for the international society."

United Kingdom:

Furthermore, UK foreign secretary Boris Johnson said: "There is no question that this is another provocation, it is reckless, what they are doing is seem to be moving closer towards a hydrogen bomb. Which, if fitted to a successful missile, would present a new order of threat without any doubt".

China:

China has been one of the few allies of the North Korea. And they have been implemented many more target together. Although China's foreign ministry released a statement stating that "nuclear test, Beijing is skeptical that tougher sanctions will work – or indeed, be of any benefit to China."

India:

And, India also expresses their concern on the hydrogen bomb test by North Korea. The external affairs ministry said that "We call upon North Korea to refrain from such actions which adversely impact peace and stability in the region and beyond". They also stated that North Korea’s actions are a matter of deep concern as it has once again violated its international commitments. India looks more concerned about the growth of nuclear and missile technologies which has somehow is a thinkable topic for the Indian security.

So, every country has shown their respective concern regarding the successful test of a Hydrogen bomb by North Korea. But, as per the country is concerned North Korean media named it a "perfect success". And also stated it a "Very effective step in completing the national nuclear weapons program".
